The City Council in Thousand Oaks, CA, voted 5-0 to limit the building of new storage buildings to industrial zones and parcels that are at least 1,000 feet from a freeway and 500 feet from an arterial street. That leaves just 30 parcels available in the city. Developers seeking to build self-storage will need a special-use permit, and that includes a hearing with the council and planning commission. The city has 15 traditional self-storage facilities built between 1960 and 2022. They range from less than 20,000 square feet to more than 200,000. In January, a one-year moratorium on self-storage facilities ends. Source:  The Acorn
