One family soon may be operating competing self-store businesses along Big Bend Road in Tichigan, WI. The Waterford Town Board has been presented with two proposals to build more storage lockers in the area of Big Bend Road and North Lake Drive, an unincorporated area north of Tichigan Lake.
Two board members abstained from voting on the proposals: Trustee Nick Draskovich, who works for one of the would-be developers, and Town Chairman Tom Hincz, who owns property involved in the other development. Draskovich represents the owners of Floyd’s Plumbing Inc., who want to build units on their property at 8231 Big Bend Road. The other development, on property Hincz owns, is proposed for the northeast corner of Big Bend Road and North Lake Drive. There are family connections for the two parties.
The Floyd’s Plumbing proposal failed by a 2-1 board vote. The project on Hincz’s property was approved.
“We’re not trying to start no family quarrel,” said Gary Seidler, who happens to own C&A Self Storage. “We kind of are solving it among ourselves.”

U-Haul Moving & Storage of Boyd Lake plans to build on a 7-acre self-storage and truck-rental site at 5440 Byrd Drive near the Northern Colorado Regional Airport in Loveland, CO. The project will include a 100,000-square-foot, three-story structure with room for about 700 units. Amero Real Estate Co., the parent company of U-Haul, purchased the land on Oct. 15 for $3.46 million. U-Haul is bringing a 200-unit self-storage facility to the former WASCO masonry warehouse at 1031 Whites Creek Pike in Nashville, TN. U-Haul Moving & Storage of East Nashville will replace the company’s store at 24341 N. 1st St., which a tornado destroyed in March 2020. The new site will have a temporary showroom offering trucks, trailers and moving supplies, and U-Haul is scheduled to take ownership of the 1.83-acre property on Dec. 15. Source: Nashville Tribune
Sean Wallace and Nick Barile, owners of 84 S. Water St., submitted a pre-application in Byram, a section of Greenwich, CT, to build a self-storage facility after demolishing the existing building, former home to HASCO Electric. Bravo Development LLC hopes to turn the 190,000-square-foot Borden Mill at 218 Plymouth Ave. in Fall River, MA into an indoor storage facility, now that it has been given a waiving of zoning requirements in a medical district, pending a property review. Steve Nelson of Nelson Commercial Construction bought a 9.72-acres site on Cunningham Drive in Sioux City, IA. He plans to build a three-story, climate-controlled indoor self-storage facility of more than 100,000 square feet. Doing business as K&S LLC, he also plans to build five two-unit, single-story buildings, which will be 15,000 square feet each and include a storefront for office space or retail and warehouse space. Bob Pouliot, owner of Boardwalk Storage Solutions LLC, opened a three-story, 694-unit, 99,650-square-foot Extra Space Storage facility that he developed at 554 Boston Post Road in Sudbury, MA. ODA Architecture was able to preserve one of the original buildings, which will serve as the leasing center. Sudbury officials asked Pouliot to design a facility that would blend in with the community’s architecture, which includes many barns. StorQuest Self Storage has developed a new five-story facility at 155 King St. in Brooklyn, NY. It’s in the Red Hook section of the borough. It’s the second StorQuest location in Brooklyn and the 10th facility in New York.

The Beckley Common Council in West Virginia passed a new ordinance regarding the regulation of indoor and outdoor self-storage facilities. The ordinance expands a chapter of the Beckley Municipal Code to say a conditional-use permit is needed for self-storage facilities in B-1 (neighborhood highway business) and B-2 (general districts).
