Gantry, an independent commercial mortgage banking firm, secured $7.7 million of permanent financing for two self-storage facilities totaling 135,000 square feet of rentable space. The facilities are Storage Corner Group’s 60,000-square-foot Uptown Storage in Salt Lake City, UT, and the 75,000-square-foot Central Storage and Business Park in St. George, UT. In Texas, the Georgetown City Council approved first readings for two special-use permits regarding self-storage units at its July 12 meeting. One center is proposed at 1301 NE Inner Loop on 7.31 acres, with a three-story building with 128,100 square feet. The second site is at 2701 E. An Iowa self-storage company purchased a former Walmart in Milwaukee, WI’s Midtown Center for $3.28 million. An Affordable Family Storage affiliate, Council Bluffs, bought the property and is known for converting closed retail stores into self-storage. The former Twin Fair discount department store in West Seneca, NY, will become a U-Haul self-storage facility and truck-rental store after serving as an operations center for Bank of America Corp. Amerco Real Estate Co., parent company of U-Haul International, will re-use the building at 2970 Transit Road for storage (above). It also will install additional drive-up exterior storage and a three-story drive-in storage building. The site has 10.4 acres. U-Haul plans to build a 12,681-square-foot, three-story storage building for drive-in access, and to install 74 portable single-story units totaling 7,400 square feet within the 492-space parking lot. Source: Buffalo News
In South Carolina, Pinnacle Storage of Conway LLC hopes to annex 20.7 acres on U.S. 501 near Old Dunn Road, and to rezone the property from Horry County high bulk retail and commercial forest agriculture to City of Conway light industrial. Planners seek to build five self-storage units on the property. In Michigan, Pogoda Cos. will have an opening ceremony Tuesday, July 26 for its National Storage Centers – Charlevoix (above), which has more than 46,000 rentable square feet. Phase one of the renovated former Kmart location opens this month; drive-up units, and covered and uncovered RV and boat parking, will be added in the fall. Pogoda Cos. bought the property this year. In Nevada, the Lyon County Board of County Commissioners approved an ordinance regarding self-storage and RV storage facilities on July 7. It’s now required that all self-storage buildings should be permanent structures built or assembled on-site; all storage must be within an enclosed building except for storing RVs; and several other provisions.  Source: CarsonNow.org
