U-Haul Moving & Storage of Daphne, AL is moving in now that U-Haul has acquired 4.12 acres east of U.S. Highway 98 and west of Old Spanish Trail. Its completion is set for 2024. A self-storage site with about 400 units spread across 61,400 square feet is going up on the former drive-in movie site at 221 Northside Drive in Bennington, VT – with a possible August opening. The town last year approved the plan for seven metal storage buildings of various lengths plus an office in Patriot Holdings LLC’s $2.7 million project. The Georgetown, TX town council tentatively approved a combined 250,000 square feet of new space, allowing for three stories instead of one. One center is proposed for 1301 NE Inner Loop in Georgetown on 7.3 acres. The other at 2701 E. University would have 3.4 acres. The university site will include 8,500 square feet of rentable commercial space plus a three-story, indoor self-storage building with about 120,000 square feet.

Self-storage would be one component of SouthGate Cos.’ new mixed-use building, called “The South District Market,” inside a former Slumberland location in Iowa City. IA. U-Haul announced plans to build a retail, moving and self-storage facility with more than 750 units at an undeveloped site at U.S. Highway 380 and Boorman Lane in Princeton, TX. It’s scheduled for completion by July 2024. City councilors in Augusta, ME rejected a proposal by a 6-2 vote to bring self-storage to a vacant and run-down former Kmart site on Western Avenue. Patriot Holdings of Las Vegas, NV, is the would-be developer and had planned to build a three-story building in the parking lot that also would hold storage units. Source: Kennebec Journal

In Georgia, the Roswell City Council amended the Unified Development Code regarding self-storage use. Now, “limited use” has replaced “permitted use” for all self-storage use in the industrial light zoning districts.
