The Delaware Planning Commission approved three requests for recommendation to the City of Delaware City Council to allow a 49,600-square-foot indoor self-storage facility on the east side of the city. It would have 167 conditioned units and 204 unconditioned ones. Also proposed is two separate outdoor buildings on both the east and west sides of a new main building The east building would have 4,600 square feet and 23 units. The west building would have 6,900 square feet, spread across another 23 units. Plans call for 439 units plus 22 covered parking spaces for boats and RVs.

The Zoning Board of Appeals in the village of Lewiston, NY voted 4-1 against self-storage as a permitted use. Applicant Vick Singh Ghotra wants to buy and renovate the Lewiston Event Center space at 845 Cayuga St., a bowling alley and sports bar owned by Emergy Simon and Harold Hibbard. The City Council in Thousand Oaks, CA, voted 5-0 to limit the building of new storage buildings to industrial zones and parcels that are at least 1,000 feet from a freeway and 500 feet from an arterial street. That leaves just 30 parcels available in the city. Developers seeking to build self-storage will need a special-use permit, and that includes a hearing with the council and planning commission. The city has 15 traditional self-storage facilities built between 1960 and 2022. They range from less than 20,000 square feet to more than 200,000.
