InSite Property Group, based in Torrance, CA, acquired a 2.3-acre development site in Kapolei Business Park, on the island of Oahu, HI. InSite plans a three-story, 104,000-NRSF facility with more than 853 units, under the SecureSpace brand. The site is near Honolulu’s busiest highway, Interstate H-1. Construction is scheduled to start in August 2022 and to finish in September 2023.

In Burlington, NC, the City Council unanimously approved a developer’s request to build a three-story self-storage facility and other businesses at the intersection of South Church Street and Ashley Woods Drive, at 4183 S. Church St. The building would have about 73,300 square feet, of which 80% to 85% would be for self-storage. Source: Alamance News
U-Haul bought the historic Rickhouse at 1170 Manchester St. in Lexington, KY (above), and plans to turn it into a 1,400-room self-storage facility called U-Haul Moving & Storage of Distillery District. Rickhouse has 197,504 square feet and sits on 7.96 acres. The building dates back to 1933. This will be the third U-Haul-owned and -operated store in Lexington and the company’s 15th store in Kentucky.
A proposed self-storage project in New York State would straddle the line between the Village of Elmsford and the Town of Greenburgh, meaning there could be conflicting rules to follow. Renard Management and its affiliate, Asset Realty & Construction Group Inc., wants to demolish an existing building and construct a five-story self-storage building at 42 Hayes St. (Greenburgh) and 44 Hayes St. (Elmsford). Greenwich Road in East Wichita, KS, on the vacant 7 acres behind the QuikTrip at Central and Greenwich. It will have four pre-fabricated metal buildings. Construction GT LLC is the builder. Morrie Sheets, a commercial broker at J.P. Weigant & Sons, is partnering on the new storage facility with Butch Nuss, director of construction and real estate development at Slawson Cos. A new self-storage facility, estimated to cost $6.73 million, may be coming to a site just outside of Lake Nona, FL. A 108,273-square-foot, three-story storage facility was proposed on 1.99 acres near the northwest corner of Boggy Creek and Simpson roads, according to Orange County (FL) documents. It would be part of a larger 13.65-acre property. An entity tied to Maitland, FL-based developer Ralph Singleton owns the land that would hold the development, and the proposal plan calls for 350 multifamily units, 330 single-family homes, 187,389 square feet of office space and other commercial uses, and 250 hotel rooms. In Alabama, U-Haul is considering buying property south of Decatur Shopping Center and Julia’s Pools, across from Saputo Dairy Foods, for a storage facility. The property is vacant because the building that was there was damaged in the April 3, 2018 storm. The Planning Commission voted unanimously to change the property’s zoning for light manufacturing, which would allow the storage facility project to move forward. In Piscataway, NJ, the Zoning Board of Adjustment approved a plan to build two self-storage buildings and renovate another at 225 Old New Brunswick Road. The first story of the existing building will remain a data center, with the second and third ones to be self-storage. Teaneck, NJ-based Treetop Development, a real estate investment firm run by Adam Mermelstein and Azi Mandel, would like to build a self-storage facility (above) on 6.4 acres of vacant land in Congers, NY. The company appeared before the Town of Clarkstown’s Technical Advisory Committee last week and seeks to put up three buildings totaling 90,000 square feet and 30 parking spaces on roughly 16% of the parcel located at 287 North Route 303. The property is made up of three parcels of land. Landowner Stanley Acker Ltd. Partnership sold those parcels to 287 N.
